SuperSTOL Update (2014-05)

The SuperSTOL project is progressing well with the timely arrival of the Rotax 914 Turbo engine. The fuselage is painted, and wiring for the panel, which presented several challenges, is underway. Despite complications with avionics and components, the author is pleased with the progress after nine months and encourages others to start building.

From the Cockpit (2013-06)

The author expresses frustration over being grounded while preparing their aircraft, the Buzzard, for flight after extensive restoration. Although satisfied with progress, they acknowledge challenges with the finish due to space limitations. They look forward to flying soon and invite community members to a summer kickoff barbeque event, promoting social engagement.

CAVU Dreams (2012-04)

The author aims to enhance their aircraft, Chrissy, for night flying and VFR over the top in Canada, requiring specific equipment upgrades. Key modifications include installing a new panel for an EFIS and EMS, improved lighting, and safety features. The upgrades will be staged due to budget constraints, with future plans for skis and ongoing progress updates.

Zenair 250 Upgrades

Carl Forman enlisted help with wiring his RV9, incorporating advanced electronics and an autopilot. The author details upgrades to their Zenair 250, sharing insights on propeller choices, radios, and navigation aids. Valuable additions included a cell/MP3 interface and engine monitor, demonstrating the importance of optimal performance and safety in aviation.

CAVU Dreams (2010-12)

The author shares the evolution of their Christavia MK 1 aircraft since 2004, detailing numerous modifications aimed at improving performance and safety. Key changes included weight reduction, enhanced avionics, and landing gear upgrades. They also outline future projects involving a new aircraft, emphasizing ongoing innovation and technical improvements in aviation.

January was a challenging month for flying, prompting upgrades to an aircraft named Chrissy. Key enhancements included larger tires, adjustments to landing gear height, relocating instruments for better visibility, and adding a second radio and audio panel for improved communication. The installation is nearing completion, with a follow-up report promised.

CAVU Dreams (2009-01)

In December, poor weather prevented most flying, shifting my focus to studying for exams and organizing the cabin. I also began construction on the Buttercup, considering replacing the nose tank with wing tanks for better fuel capacity and balance. I created a spreadsheet for weight and balance reports, available for interested members.

RV-10 Building Process

The author is building an RV-10 aircraft, prioritizing speed, fuel capacity, and family travel. This quick-build project began in 2007, featuring a glass panel with autopilot and ample storage. Progress includes completing the empennage, wings, and engine installation. The project nears completion, with final tasks pending before the first flight.

My Mark IV Avid Flyer

After two years and 349.8 hours, my Avid aircraft project is nearly complete, awaiting inspection. I share my challenges, from acquiring parts, which were often difficult, to constructing components in my unheated garage. While Aircraft Spruce's service was disappointing, I ultimately succeeded in assembly and engine installation. Performance figures will follow post-flight.
