RV-10 Building Process

The author is building an RV-10 aircraft, prioritizing speed, fuel capacity, and family travel. This quick-build project began in 2007, featuring a glass panel with autopilot and ample storage. Progress includes completing the empennage, wings, and engine installation. The project nears completion, with final tasks pending before the first flight.

SeaRey Accident

On September 14, a pilot experienced a near-fatal incident during water landings at Sylvan Lake. After successfully landing twice, the plane unexpectedly flipped upside down upon touchdown. The pilot utilized safety skills to escape and was rescued. Subsequent inspections revealed potential construction flaws in the aircraft's fiberglass hull, prompting an ongoing investigation.

From The Cockpit (2008-08)

The trip to Oshkosh was memorable, involving flying over diverse landscapes and valuable experiences in a group of eight. Despite weather-related changes, the event showcased the best in aviation. A first ramp check highlighted organizational importance, while club updates included equipment donations and a new website administrator. Upcoming events promise more engagement.

In January 2008, a meeting at SAIT’s Art Smith Aerospace Center showcased Canada's aircraft maintenance training, led by instructors Brian Goddard and Rod Deneve. The author visited friends, flew to Cooking Lake, and admired Gil's new Murphy Elite. The flight and sight-seeing over Edmonton were memorable, despite some noise issues in the aircraft.
