A farewell gathering at Tipitinas celebrated eight years of the restaurant, attracting many pilots for a final lunch.
October was an active month for flying, with spontaneous trips and a new mailing list, CalRUFC, established to improve communication among club members. This Yahoo!Group facilitates flight invitations and aviation queries. Additionally, the author is taking a TIG welding course to enhance skills for future airplane building, encouraging member contributions to the newsletter.
The author recounts a trip to retrieve their RV-9 from Eugene, Oregon, navigating diverse weather conditions and air traffic. The COPA for Kids event is canceled due to inclement weather. Recent enjoyable flights occurred in September, including a trip to Rocky Mountain House. Upcoming club elections are in December. The successful COPA convention had over 180 planes and 140 volunteers. Guest speakers for the October meeting will discuss their missionary flying in Africa.
After three years, the author visits Oshkosh with Carl Forman, opting for a rented place in Waupaca instead of camping. While Carl succeeds in finding avionics, the author fails to locate the Thatcher CX4 and purchase a Zulu headset due to pricing issues. Overall, the trip was enjoyable but less crowded than in previous years.
On August 29, 2009, I finally accepted Pat's invitation to fly. The day was beautiful, and the camaraderie among pilots was refreshing. After a smooth flight to Linden and a delightful breakfast, we continued to Ram Falls, highlighted by picturesque views and a perfect landing. Despite initial fears during approach, it ended as a glorious day.
This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.
July proved to be an exceptional month for aviation as pleasant weather enabled club members to embark on extended trips, including visits to Oshkosh and Cold Lake for airshows. Various local flying events gathered strong attendance, showcasing cooperation among members, and resulting in memorable flying experiences despite some challenges, promising a vibrant September ahead.
August has not started well for flying, with only one flight last month for maintenance checks. Despite this, there are upcoming events, including a Fly-in breakfast on August 29 and a successful COPA convention in July. Elections for President, Treasurer, and Director are approaching in December, with meetings resuming on September 10.
