CAVU Dreams (2009-09)

This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.

“COPA For Kids” Top-Off Insurance

COPA Flights enhances summer experiences by facilitating children's first flying opportunities through the COPA For Kids program. Participating pilots, who must be COPA members, receive additional insurance at no cost. Safety policies require public liability insurance. Non-flying volunteers are also covered. COPA and EAA programs cannot be combined. More details are available via the COPA guide.

From The Cockpit (2009-08)

Despite this, there are upcoming events, including a Fly-in breakfast on August 29 and a successful COPA convention in July. Elections for President, Treasurer, and Director are approaching in December, with meetings resuming on September 10.

The Cessna 120 has resumed flights after receiving its Limited STC. Notable flights included the Poker Run and a breakfast event in Camrose, with over 1000 meals served. Emphasis on following flying protocols was highlighted due to busy traffic conditions. Upcoming events include a meeting with a skydiving guest speaker and a fly-out planned for June 14th.

February brings improved weather and optimism for flying, with only one day of flight logged this year. The AME school focuses on hands-on training, including aircraft inspections and avionics theory. Students learn critical log entry rules and the importance of independent inspections. Job hunting is underway despite economic challenges, and the need for articles for the Skywriter persists.

CAVU Dreams (2009-01)

In December, poor weather prevented most flying, shifting my focus to studying for exams and organizing the cabin. I also began construction on the Buttercup, considering replacing the nose tank with wing tanks for better fuel capacity and balance. I created a spreadsheet for weight and balance reports, available for interested members.

Bernie Kespie's letter advocates for the Calgary Recreational Pilots Association to embrace a direction that prioritizes attracting pilots of all experience levels. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a grassroots focus on safety and enjoyment in flying, while suggesting a need for clarity in club leadership to guide membership growth effectively.
