The year ended with a memorable flying experience over the Kananaskis Valley during a visit from the author's parents. After a clear Boxing Day, the author and friends enjoyed a smooth flight, overcoming oil temperature regulation challenges with a new adjustable air intake for the engine. The joyful day concluded with successful flight procedures and exploration.
Last week featured harsh weather, limiting flying opportunities except for one successful trip. Work included servicing two Diamond DA-42 Twin Stars and an Aztec for avionics upgrades, where a new method using solder sleeves for shielded wire installation improved efficiency and appearance, replacing more time-consuming traditional techniques.
October was an active month for flying, with spontaneous trips and a new mailing list, CalRUFC, established to improve communication among club members. This Yahoo!Group facilitates flight invitations and aviation queries. Additionally, the author is taking a TIG welding course to enhance skills for future airplane building, encouraging member contributions to the newsletter.
The COPA for Kids event, originally set for October 3rd, has been postponed to October 10th due to adverse weather. Despite this, September was notably successful for flights, including a trip to Lethbridge. The author also shares insights on aircraft imports, highlighting their significant costs and recommendations for buyers.
This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.
July proved to be an exceptional month for aviation as pleasant weather enabled club members to embark on extended trips, including visits to Oshkosh and Cold Lake for airshows. Various local flying events gathered strong attendance, showcasing cooperation among members, and resulting in memorable flying experiences despite some challenges, promising a vibrant September ahead.
July is filled with exciting aviation events like Fly-In Breakfasts and Airshows. A recent trip to deliver plans showcased camaraderie among club members. The installation of an Artex ME406 ELT in the Christavia was completed successfully. There won’t be club meetings in July and August, resuming on September 11th.
The author recently began working at Klarenbach Aviation, a small aircraft maintenance company, and has enjoyed diverse tasks on various aircraft. They stress the importance of thorough inspections and share tips for performing annual checks, emphasizing a comfortable work environment and proper technique to prevent mistakes and ensure safety during maintenance.
This month has been a significant milestone, marking my completion of AME school after transitioning from a job at Encana. Despite the tough job market, I secured a position at Klarenbach Aviation. I also enjoyed flights and family projects, culminating in a successful Mother's Day Fly-in Breakfast with record attendance.
March experienced challenging flying conditions due to adverse weather, but upcoming summer days look promising. Key aviation events, such as the Rust Remover meeting and Western AME Symposium, took place, featuring a presentation on Springbank's new Class C airspace. Innovations like the new Eagle EMS fuel system were showcased, offering significant advantages.
