Completion of the Carbon Cub EX2

In August 2015, I began building my Carbon Cub EX2 kit, encountering part shortages and quality issues. Despite the challenges, including paint contamination and scheduling setbacks, I invested 1000 hours over 10.5 months. After successful test flights in varied conditions, I found the aircraft enjoyable and a great addition to my flying repertoire.

The Flight to Key West

The journey from Clearwater to Key West featured breathtaking coastal views and encounters with the Everglades. After enjoying Key West, the family navigated back, facing storms. They briefly stopped in Crystal River, where they kayaked and saw manatees. The flight home included challenging conditions, with humorous family moments during landing in Omaha.

SuperSTOL Update (2015-01)

On December 17, 2014, the SuperSTOL made its maiden flight after thorough preparation. The pilot conducted several short hops, confirmed its controllability, and completed multiple circuits. The aircraft's performance, especially in slow flight, was remarkable, with take-offs in three seconds and manageable touch downs at low speeds. The pilot plans to accumulate more flying hours for further exploration.

SuperSTOL Update (2014-12)

The SuperSTOL is ready for flight pending Transport Canada’s final paperwork for MDRA inspectors. It features a Rotax 914 engine producing 115hp, weighing 897 lbs, and boasts good ground handling and night flying capabilities. The author is hopeful for flight authority soon, despite previous delays and ongoing adjustments to the aircraft.

SuperSTOL Update (2014-05)

The SuperSTOL project is progressing well with the timely arrival of the Rotax 914 Turbo engine. The fuselage is painted, and wiring for the panel, which presented several challenges, is underway. Despite complications with avionics and components, the author is pleased with the progress after nine months and encourages others to start building.

Update from CRFCYYC Member Troy – May 2, 2013 0640 MDT Day Summary

The trip from Vegas to Calgary on Wednesday involved windy conditions and some challenges, including snowy weather and turbulence. The journey included stops at Idaho Falls and Cut Bank, with some unexpected twists such as a closed restaurant for lunch. Despite the bumps and headwinds, the flight covered over 2500 nm and offered a unique perspective of the scenery. The kids proved to be excellent flyers, showing resilience even in the face of turbulence. Overall, it was an enjoyable and memorable experience, showcasing the joy of flying at lower altitudes.

The flight from Fullerton to San Diego was scenic, navigating busy airspace and following instructions from SoCal approach. The journey included staying clear of restricted airspace, taking photos of the flower fields in Carlsbad, and landing smoothly at Montgomery Field. The trip, which continues to the beach and northward, has been an excellent experience so far.
