The Import Inspection

CAVU Dreams (2007-07)

The author recounts a busy month of family relocations, flight modifications, and adventures. From The Cockpit (2007-06)

Summer has arrived, bringing pleasant weather and successful events like the poker run, won by Troy Branch despite his late arrival. The trophy for the worst hand will be presented at the next meeting. The Corsair project is ongoing, and excitement builds around Warren’s new video and future films. Enjoy the summer!

CAVU Dreams (2007-02)

In 2007, the author sets resolutions to prioritize completing ongoing projects, particularly a Commercial License and building a plane named Buttercup. The author outlines a method to construct a wing rib jig using acrylic for easier assembly. Plans include producing wing ribs efficiently, aiming to finish by spring.

The Kitfox is Back

After selling his slow RX-550 Beaver, the author sought a new 2-seater plane that could carry a passenger and provide better performance. He eventually found a Kitfox Model II that fit his criteria well. After repairs and training on taildragging, he successfully completed his first landings and looks forward to flying again.

CAVU Dreams (2006-11)

The author reflects on completing winter preparations for their cottage and the end of flying season, while excited to finally begin building a Wittman Buttercup aircraft after delays due to home renovations and aircraft maintenance. They plan to start with the fuselage for motivation, emphasizing efficient seasonal work habits.

And Merl Makes Five

Stu Simpson recalls his encounter with a Macair Merlin in 1992 and his eventual ownership of it fourteen years later. Following the loss of his Green Giant in a crash, Simpson acquired the Merlin and began extensive modifications, including an engine change and wing tank installation. Despite initial challenges with the aircraft's ailerons and oil pressure, Simpson resolves these issues and successfully test flies the plane. He expresses his satisfaction with the aircraft’s STOL performance, speed, and roomy cockpit, expressing his hope that it will be his final aircraft. Simpson acknowledges the help and support of the CUFC members throughout the project.

CAVU Dreams (2009-03)

February brought mixed weather but ended positively with a lunch gathering in Lacombe that featured multiple aircraft enthusiasts. The author recently introduced a fellow student to light flying, excelled in class, and continued working on their Buttercup project, focusing on rib construction for wings. Upcoming aviation events are in the pipeline.
