CAVU Dreams (2009-09)

This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.

The summer flying season offers exciting events for aviation enthusiasts. A recent trip to Vulcan attracted 16 planes, fostering camaraderie and good community relations. Despite strong winds, Bob Kirkby's breakfast on July 4th was enjoyable. Members are encouraged to volunteer for the upcoming COPA convention and contribute articles about club activities.

CAVU Dreams (2007-12)

Winter has arrived with temperatures dropping below -20°C. Despite the cold, impressive aviation activities occurred, especially at Linden airstrip, where local groups organized flights and a Young Eagles day. Plans are underway to upgrade the airstrip, including burying power lines and relocating it, with community support and funding.

Cross-Country in a PA-12

Last year, I purchased a 1947 Piper PA-12 and flew it home from Columbus, Ohio to Canada. The journey involved meticulous pre-flight planning, several stops across the U.S., and navigating various weather conditions. Despite challenges, I successfully completed the 1,760-mile trip in 19.2 hours with great satisfaction.

Guy expresses excitement about his property, offering pancakes for early arrivals.

The Forbidden City

Flying ultralights is typically straightforward, but the experience changes when pilots attempt to land at Calgary International Airport for Aviation Days. Club members received special permission and a briefing to manage ATC protocols. After initial anxieties, pilots successfully navigated the process, with one pilot expressing relief and triumph upon arrival.
