CAVU Dreams (2009-08)

July proved to be an exceptional month for aviation as pleasant weather enabled club members to embark on extended trips, including visits to Oshkosh and Cold Lake for airshows. Various local flying events gathered strong attendance, showcasing cooperation among members, and resulting in memorable flying experiences despite some challenges, promising a vibrant September ahead.

From The Cockpit (2009-06)

The Cessna 120 has resumed flights after receiving its Limited STC. Notable flights included the Poker Run and a breakfast event in Camrose, with over 1000 meals served. Emphasis on following flying protocols was highlighted due to busy traffic conditions. Upcoming events include a meeting with a skydiving guest speaker and a fly-out planned for June 14th.

CAVU Dreams (2009-05)

This month has been a significant milestone, marking my completion of AME school after transitioning from a job at Encana. Despite the tough job market, I secured a position at Klarenbach Aviation. I also enjoyed flights and family projects, culminating in a successful Mother's Day Fly-in Breakfast with record attendance.

Controlled Flat Spin

After months of anticipation, the author has acquired a Sukhoi 29, enhancing their aerobatic flying ambitions. Previously flying Cessna 172, Citabria, and Super Decathlon, the Sukhoi, a two-seat evolution of the Su-26, offers superior performance and maneuverability. Insights on Sukhoi’s history, design features, and construction signify its prestige in aerobatics.

Feelings of Flight

The author describes the varied emotions and experiences of flying, from exhilaration to fear and solitude. They feel a deep connection with the sky and the aircraft, finding a sense of adventure, safety, and belonging. The author feels fortunate and strives to appreciate the gift of flight, viewing it as a precious and enriching experience.

Moving Up

The author, originally pursuing a commercial license for backup, transitions from renting planes to buying a Zenair CH 250 to enjoy flying freely. With enhanced speed and endurance, they can explore new destinations without fuel concerns, allowing for greater adventures and group trips, while balancing family obligations.

From The Cockpit (2008-12)

In November, winter was delayed, allowing for enjoyable flying days. A group celebrated a new GPS approach with 15 planes, enjoying pie afterward. Members are urged to vote on a club name change by January 8, with dues increasing to $30. Elections for club positions are approaching, and thanks are extended to Troy Branch for his RV10 project update.

RV-10 Building Process

The author is building an RV-10 aircraft, prioritizing speed, fuel capacity, and family travel. This quick-build project began in 2007, featuring a glass panel with autopilot and ample storage. Progress includes completing the empennage, wings, and engine installation. The project nears completion, with final tasks pending before the first flight.
