The Gift of Time

Time is integral to aviation, influencing landings and measuring flight experience. Pilots value the journey and the sights seen at slower speeds, cherishing moments in the air. Understanding time’s significance helps retain memories of flights and connections with other aviators, emphasizing its value as a precious gift rather than a competition.

After selling his slow RX-550 Beaver, the author sought a new 2-seater plane that could carry a passenger and provide better performance. He eventually found a Kitfox Model II that fit his criteria well. After repairs and training on taildragging, he successfully completed his first landings and looks forward to flying again.

To Vulcan Again!

Each year, COPA flights from Calgary and Lethbridge gather for breakfast in Vulcan, fostering connections among pilots. This year's event on August 19th saw 24 planes and about 36 attendees, including the youngest member, Emma. The tradition continues to grow, enhancing camaraderie and providing a fun reason to fly.

The Forbidden City

Flying ultralights is typically straightforward, but the experience changes when pilots attempt to land at Calgary International Airport for Aviation Days. Club members received special permission and a briefing to manage ATC protocols. After initial anxieties, pilots successfully navigated the process, with one pilot expressing relief and triumph upon arrival.

CAVU Dreams (2006-09)

I had an incredible flying weekend, starting with practice landings and a successful fly-in breakfast at Springbank. Enjoyed smooth weather, good company, and even pie afterward. I plan to add wheel skis to my plane for winter and discovered new aircraft products at Oshkosh. Excited for fall flying and upcoming maintenance chores.
