A Linden Excursion

The airfield near the coulee, unmarked on the map, took Stu Simpson and his friends on a nostalgic flight to Linden. Welcomed with warmth and generosity, they enjoyed a pancake breakfast and participated in the town's festivities. Departing with fond memories, they left Linden where time seemed to stand still.

And Lived On the Wind

Stu Simpson had a solo adventure at Kirkby Field, feeling the thrill of flight in his Giant plane. He reminisced about landing challenges at a rancher's strip and shared his desire for more aerial exploration. Simpson then flew to Linden, avoiding power lines, and later marveled at the countryside. He encountered a student pilot's radio communication and pondered the future of aviation. Returning to Kirkby Field, Simpson savored the joy of flying and reflected on the freedom experienced by barnstormers of the past. His day in the sky left him deeply grateful for the exhilarating moments spent aloft.

The Simple Things

The author and his friend, Don Rogers, embark on a nostalgic flight to Linden for some legendary pie. Due to stormy weather, they divert to Beiseker Airport where they witness skydivers and reminisce about past adventures. After departing Beiseker, they engage in playful flying maneuvers over a slough before heading back to Kirkby's. The author reflects on the joy of flying and the day’s experiences, cherishing the simple pleasures of aviation.

A year in a KitFox

The author reflects on their journey with their KitFox aircraft, C-INJV, acquired six years ago but needing significant repairs. After three years of work, it transformed into a yellow SuperFox, enabling enjoyable flights. With over 200 logged hours, the author emphasizes the joy of sharing flight experiences and the upcoming KitFox Fly-in event.

Fat Dumb and Happy

During a routine flight, the pilot experienced a smoke issue due to a broken muffler. After safely landing, he sought tools for repairs and received help from a local resident. A quick visit to a welding shop ensured the issue was resolved in time for both pilots to meet their commitments, highlighting community support.

Linden Sports Day

On June 5th, Linden Sports Day invited nearby flying clubs, raising safety concerns for some flyers. A past near-miss incident highlighted dangers at busy events. Safety protocols, including flight planning and familiarization with airport procedures, are vital. Despite concerns, participants enjoyed a pleasant breakfast before returning home after the event.

From the Cockpit (2013-02)

After relocating to Airdrie, the author is restructuring their On Hold Advertising business and making cold calls to build new connections. They emphasize the importance of welcoming new members at meetings and suggest engaging them in conversations. Personal experiences with fellow aviators showcase camaraderie, while promoting business services.

CAVU Dreams (2009-09)

This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.

CAVU Dreams (2009-08)

July proved to be an exceptional month for aviation as pleasant weather enabled club members to embark on extended trips, including visits to Oshkosh and Cold Lake for airshows. Various local flying events gathered strong attendance, showcasing cooperation among members, and resulting in memorable flying experiences despite some challenges, promising a vibrant September ahead.
