The COPA for Kids event, originally set for October 3rd, has been postponed to October 10th due to adverse weather. Despite this, September was notably successful for flights, including a trip to Lethbridge. The author also shares insights on aircraft imports, highlighting their significant costs and recommendations for buyers.
After three years, the author visits Oshkosh with Carl Forman, opting for a rented place in Waupaca instead of camping. While Carl succeeds in finding avionics, the author fails to locate the Thatcher CX4 and purchase a Zulu headset due to pricing issues. Overall, the trip was enjoyable but less crowded than in previous years.
This summer has been challenging for flying, with a four-week hiatus due to poor weather despite usually logging 30-40 hours. Notably, I attended a fly-in breakfast for the newly opened Linden airstrip. I faced some engine temperature anomalies during a flight to Medicine Hat, but resolved them swiftly. Another flight nearly involved a collision with a deer on the runway.
In August, the author enjoyed flights, taking a friend new to small planes on a trip to Drumheller and later Linden and Sundre. They appreciated the experience of sharing aviation. A successful event for the club's power line removal was also noted. Monthly meetings resume September 10th, with volunteer positions available.
COPA Flights enhances summer experiences by facilitating children's first flying opportunities through the COPA For Kids program. Participating pilots, who must be COPA members, receive additional insurance at no cost. Safety policies require public liability insurance. Non-flying volunteers are also covered. This summer, the author visited Europe with his family, primarily to see friends in Norway. They attended the Duxford Air Museum and the spectacular Flying Legends Air Show, featuring numerous WWII aircraft. The experience was remarkable, filled with fascinating displays and impressive aerial performances, making it an unforgettable highlight of their trip.
July proved to be an exceptional month for aviation as pleasant weather enabled club members to embark on extended trips, including visits to Oshkosh and Cold Lake for airshows. Various local flying events gathered strong attendance, showcasing cooperation among members, and resulting in memorable flying experiences despite some challenges, promising a vibrant September ahead.
August has not started well for flying, with only one flight last month for maintenance checks. Despite this, there are upcoming events, including a Fly-in breakfast on August 29 and a successful COPA convention in July. Elections for President, Treasurer, and Director are approaching in December, with meetings resuming on September 10.
