The airfield near the coulee, unmarked on the map, took Stu Simpson and his friends on a nostalgic flight to Linden. Welcomed with warmth and generosity, they enjoyed a pancake breakfast and participated in the town's festivities. Departing with fond memories, they left Linden where time seemed to stand still.
The journey back home faced challenges due to weather, leading the crew to redirect multiple times. After fueling and weather-related diversions, they successfully navigated obstacles and made critical decisions, finally reaching their destination safely. The trip highlighted the importance of preparedness, navigation tools, and the joy of aviation adventure.
The trip to Oklahoma to pick up Bob Kirkby’s Starduster biplane highlighted the use of technology in aviation. The author relied on modern GPS devices and apps for navigation, significantly minimizing the use of traditional maps. Despite flying in older aircraft models, the integration of technology facilitated efficient flight planning and communication.
March brings lingering cold weather, but flying trips are underway. The successful annual banquet had 57 attendees, thanks to Dave Procyshen. Last chance for raffle tickets before the March 12th draw. Upcoming events include the annual rust remover on April 4th and presentations on seatbelt design and a Rotax 912 engine.
