Cavalier Engine Swap Part 2

In mid-February, the author retrieved a newly overhauled O-320 engine for their Cavalier airplane. With help from Gerry MacDonald, the engine was successfully installed despite some challenges, including the need for new mounting bolts. After a test run and adjustments, the flight was successful, revealing improved performance and smoother operation.

The author experienced increased oil consumption in their Lycoming O-290D engine due to several issues, including a lack of an oil-air separator and a worn valve guide. Opting for a more reliable solution, they decided to replace the O-290 with a Lycoming O-320-A2B engine, which offers better parts availability and power.

A Break in the Chain

The author recounts a near aircraft accident while practicing crosswind landings. A series of situational challenges, including wind conditions and visibility, tested their decision-making.
