CAVU Dreams (2011-01)

In mid-August, the author faced a life-changing diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes after abnormal blood work. Following this, he sought medical guidance and made significant lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, while working to regain his flying privileges. Despite challenges, he received strong support from family and friends and ultimately succeeded in renewing his medical certification.

CAVU Dreams (2010-12)

In the 2010 Air Adventure Tour, the author aimed to visit Arlington, departing from Vancouver. A solo flight along the Pacific coast led to encounters with fog and the Olympic Mountains, resulting in a headache from a steep descent. Despite fewer attendees at Arlington, the experience was enjoyable, fueling excitement for Oshkosh 2011.

The author reflects on a vacation, highlighting their participation in the CRUFC 2010 Air Adventure Tour and subsequent work on aircraft maintenance. They faced engine oil temperature issues attributed to a plastic tub obstructing the air valve but eventually resolved the problem. The trip was ultimately successful and enjoyable, bolstered by modern technology like an iPhone.

May was disappointing for flying, but the author enjoyed a weekend with favorable weather, flying with a neighbor and his wife to an annual breakfast. After performing an annual inspection on his plane, he plans to add a spinner for dynamic balance, which can reduce vibrations and enhance engine performance.

The author reflects on a memorable flight trip to Invermere, BC, with fellow pilots during favorable weather in March and April. The journey involved navigating through stunning mountain landscapes, culminating in a relaxed lunch stop. It served as an excellent learning experience, boosting confidence in mountain flying and sparking future adventure plans.

This spring promises ideal flying conditions, with early-season weather improving after a challenging two months. While the author missed several good weekends due to fog and plane repairs, they enjoyed the last weekend of February flying around Calgary. Filming for a club video is also underway, with members encouraged to participate.

January was a challenging month for flying, prompting upgrades to an aircraft named Chrissy. Key enhancements included larger tires, adjustments to landing gear height, relocating instruments for better visibility, and adding a second radio and audio panel for improved communication. The installation is nearing completion, with a follow-up report promised.
